| Burton End School is a first school taking pupils from ages 3-9. In main school we have around 275 pupils. We have a designated nursery with a teacher and a Nursery Nurse for a maximum of 26 children for each morning or afternoon session. Here activities are based on structured play. They have a purpose-built outdoor area and are out and about the grounds on Wednesday, which is Wellie Day. |

The school is situated on the western edge of Haverhill, adjoining the new attractive developments on the Sainsburys side of town. It is set in very beautiful grounds. We are a green school making use of our superb surroundings for work and play. We have a wildlife pond, woodland walks where rare bee orchids and wild flowers grow, trim trail, adventures playground, role play fort, outdoor classroom and two large playgrounds, one for quiet play and one for boisterous activities. The building is colourful and airy we have two halls, a library and ICT suite and a music room, and the classrooms are light and spacious. We have a head, 13 teachers and 8 teacher assistants, a bursar and a receptionist. We are all part of the family of the school and work together as a happy team. The children call themselves The Burton Bumble Bees because they live together in harmony, work hard and care for the environment. Teaching is good with Learning Objectives shared with pupils. Parents are kept informed about areas of learning as they are covered and are seen as partners in learning many come to help in the classrooms. School trips are encouraged and the year 4s go on a weekend residential each year. We offer many extra curricular activities both at lunchtime and after school these may include drama, gymnastics, sports, singing, computers, art & design and authors clubs. Once a year we put on a performance that involves all the children on stage. Last year we presented The Nutcracker which was a great success. We have an active and supportive Governing body who are involved in the life of the school, and several willing parent helpers who run the informal FOBES (Friends of Burton End School) who organise film nights, discos and other fund raising fun events. OFSTED described the school as good during our last inspection in 2003. |
